The Halstead Lady Dragons brought their passion to the Wildcat Classic, showcasing their formidable defense. From the moment the first whistle blew to the final buzzer, they were focused on business, relentlessly creating turnovers and dominating the court. In their game against Maize, Halstead scored 41 points while holding Maize to only 27. Dominique Schutte led the team with 20 points and 4 rebounds, followed by Dalaina Schutte with 10 points. Jordy Schroeder contributed 6 points and 3 steals, Addisen Wills had 3 points, 3 steals, 3 rebounds, and 4 assists, Kacy Young scored 2 points, 4 assists, and 2 steals. Lauren Wilson and Lilyan Angle were also integral to the team's outstanding defense. Lauren, a senior and a four-year player for the Dragons, may not have the highest stats, but her presence on the court is undeniable. Her intensity and pressure are unmatched and make a significant impact on the game
In the second round, the Dragons faced off against Circle, and the game remained closely contested for the majority of the match. It wasn't until the final minutes that the Dragons managed to pull away. Once again, it was the defense that proved crucial in keeping the Dragons on top. Dominique contributed 15 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 steals, while Jordy Schroeder scored 12 points and made 1 steal. Kacy Young scored 9 points, grabbed 2 rebounds, and made some steals, and Dalaina Schutte contributed 6 points, 2 rebounds, and 2 assists. Lauren Wilson scored 3 points and grabbed 6 rebounds, and freshman Bailey Bernal made a significant impact with 4 points at pivotal moments. The Dragons were able to limit Circle to just 7 points in the entire second half, which played a decisive role in securing their victory.
The Championship game was a fiercely contested match, but ultimately the Dragons emerged victorious. Just like the other two games the Dragons showcased their strong defensive skills throughout the game. Despite Valley Center taking an early lead, the Dragons fought hard to reclaim it. Dominique had an impressive performance with 13 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 significant blocks. Dalaina contributed 6 points and 6 rebounds, while Kacy Young added 6 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, and 3 steals. Addi also made valuable contributions with 6 points, 2 assists, and 2 steals, and freshman Jordy managed 5 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists, and 4 steals. The support of the enthusiastic Halstead crowd over the course of the three days was heartening, as the community rallied behind the student athletes and coaches. Halstead was proud to have two Lady Dragons, Dominique Schutte and Dalaina Schutte, named to the All Tournament Team.
