Overview

USD 440 will engage in continuous improvement to develop successful learners. This mission statement guides our academic endeavors throughout the district. Our young children have the opportunity to attend Little Dragon Preschool and Pre-K Early Learning Kansans. Bentley Primary School is a K-3 building that is developing their Dragon PRIDE by focusing on perseverance, respect, integrity, dependability, and empathy as their formal learning begins. Halstead Middle School is a 4-8 building emphasizing learning in an environment through safety, honesty, respect and responsibility. Halstead High School is a 9-12 building developing respect, integrity, commitment, and optimism to prepare students for their post-secondary endeavors.

Our dedicated staff works in collaboration to teach the standards and competencies with a goal of meeting the Kansas definition for a successful high school graduate. A successful Kansas high school graduate has the academic preparation, cognitive preparation, technical skills, employability skills and civic engagement to be successful in postsecondary education, in the attainment of an industry-recognized certification or in the workforce, without the need for remediation. USD 440 provides academic activities such as Debate, Forensics, Spanish Club, Scholars Bowl, and National Honor Society along with 14 Career and Technical Education pathways for students to prepare themselves for post-secondary opportunities. Halstead High School strives for academic excellence consistently scoring above the state ACT average over the past five years and has a 93.38 percent graduation rate. Developing successful learners through continuous improvement is guiding USD 440 towards #dragonsuccess.
